CHOLESTEROL-LOWERING DRUGS MAY AFFECT HEART MUSCLE IF CO-Q10 IS DEFICIENT

POTENTIAL RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH TAKING STATINS (CHOLESTEROL-LOWERING DRUGS)

According to research published in the Journal of Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis, taking even a small dose of 10mg of statin drugs, such as Crestor, Lipitor, Lipostat, etc can deplete your CoQ10 levels by an amazing 40% in just 2 months.

Muscle pain is one common side effect that people can experience when taking these drugs. Other possible side effects from Statin medications can include joint pain, headaches, insomnia, weight gain, skin rashes, congested sinuses, indigestion, nausea, dizziness, bowel changes such as constipation or diarrhoea, nose bleeds, back pain, pins and needles in limbs, hair loss, reduced blood platelets, chest pain, liver disorders and blood sugar imbalances (which can lead to heart disease).

In fact, in Canada, cholesterol-lowering medications have a ‘Black Box’ warning that admits the risk of lowering CoQ10 in your heart, can lead to impaired cardiac function. Therefore, taking these drugs without taking CoQ10 may actually be increasing your risk of heart disease.

However, when taking CoQ10, always take highly absorbable forms such as Ubidecarenone, as these can be absorbed by the body much more efficiently than other forms.

Consult your naturopathic physician or doctor about whether or not you should be taking CoQ10.

Warning: Do not take CoQ10 while on warfarin therapy or while taking other anti-coagulant (blood-thinning) medications
